The Issue

We, the parents, and community members of Design39Campus, are deeply concerned about recent and proposed changes that fundamentally alter the school’s learning model. These changes—including the elimination of makeries, reduction of collaborative learning spaces, and increased student load—threaten the core philosophy that made D39 a nationally recognized “School That Works.”

Our Concerns

  • Loss of creativity, innovation, and hands-on STEM learning opportunities for D39 students
  • Elimination of makeries and collaborative spaces that are central to how D39 students learn, create, and work together
  • Erosion of the community-driven, collaborative model that defines the D39 experience
  • Overcrowding impacting quality of education and reducing the low student-to-teacher ratios that enable personalized learning
  • Reduced access to deep dives, electives, and student choice that keep D39 students engaged
  • Decisions being made without meaningful involvement of the D39 community, including parents, students, and LEDs.

Our Ask

We respectfully request:

  • Immediate pause on any irreversible changes
  • A detailed, transparent plan outlining impact on:
  • D39 student learning experience
  • Staffing and student-to-teacher ratios
  • Class sizes and campus capacity
  • Access to makeries, collaborative spaces, electives, and programs
  • Inclusion of D39 community stakeholders in the decision-making process before implementation
  • Exploration of alternative solutions, including infrastructure expansion instead of removing the makeries and collaborative learning spaces that are foundational to D39

We support thoughtful growth, but not at the cost of dismantling what makes Design39Campus exceptional.
