The Issue

I chose to make Davie County my home because I grew up here. The serene landscapes, the strong sense of community, and the valuable farmland are what drew me back to this cherished place. Now, these very qualities are under threat. The proposal to develop a large-scale industrial data center in our beloved county is not just an infrastructure project—it's a decision that can irreversibly harm our environment and alter our way of life.

Industrial data centers bring with them significant noise and light pollution, disrupting our quiet nights and affecting our health and well-being. They create additional traffic and demand on our infrastructure, which our peaceful rural roads are not designed to handle. They pose risks to local wildlife and destroy ecosystems that have taken decades, if not centuries, to build. The environmental impacts, including increased energy consumption and water usage, are not sustainable.

Moreover, one of our most valuable resources, farmland, is threatened by this development. Davie County has been a place where generations of families have farmed the land, contributing to our local food supply and economy. This proposed development not only risks the loss of arable land but also undermines our agricultural heritage and self-sufficiency.

The economic gains promised by such developments often do not translate into tangible benefits for local residents. The jobs created are limited once the construction is complete, and the financial incentives developers receive tend to benefit them more than the community. Furthermore, the presence of a data center could potentially lower property values, affecting homeowners who have spent years investing in their properties.

We must prioritize sustainable and thoughtful development that aligns with our community values and long-term objectives. We can consider alternative locations or innovative technologies that have a minimal environmental footprint. Local officials must engage with residents in open dialogue to ensure that any development does not compromise the character and environment of Davie County.

Please join me in standing against the industrial data center development in Davie County. We need your support to protect our community, our environment, and our future. Sign this petition to urge our local leaders to reject this proposal and consider more sustainable options that preserve the heritage and tranquility of our home.
