Protect Crozet's Wildlife

Protect Crozet's Wildlife
The Issue
Sign this petition to protect Crozet's sensitive wildlife habitat by asking Albemarle County to build a high-quality bridge as part of its plan to complete the Eastern Avenue Connector.
Albemarle County is finally developing plans to finish the Eastern Avenue Connector in Crozet, Virginia. When finished, the road will connect Route 240 to Route 250 with a bridge over Lickinghole Creek and bisect the rich wildlife habitat along the Crozet nature trail.
Despite publicly priding themselves as responsible environmental stewards, the County is now soliciting bids to build the bridge without requiring that a protected wildlife and pedestrian corridor be included in the bridge design, breaking the promises of its own Biodiversity Action Plan.
The importance of preserving a wildlife corridor along Lickinghole Creek corridor is apparent to anyone who enjoys the Crozet trails. The attached flyer shows one example of a black bear and her three cubs crossing the area where the road and bridge are planned.
Without a protected bridge underpass, these bears and other terrestrial wildlife will be forced to cross what will become one of Crozet's busiest roads. To view the success of bridge designs like these, click here.
On May 8, the Crozet Community Association (CCA) introduced the attached resolution on this topic to urge the County Executive (Jeff Richardson) to take immediate action and provided it to the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors.
Crozet residents are strongly encouraged to sign this petition and attend the CCA's next meeting on July 10 at 7:30pm in the building behind the basketball courts at Claudius Crozet Park to finalize a vote on this resolution and get an update from White Hall Supervisor Ann Mallek.
