Protect Consumers from Hidden Grocery Delivery Markups

Protect Consumers from Hidden Grocery Delivery Markups

The Issue

Protect Consumers from Hidden Grocery Delivery Markups
Every day, millions of consumers rely on grocery delivery services because of disability, illness, age, lack of transportation, demanding work schedules, childcare responsibilities, or simple convenience.

Most consumers understand they may have to pay delivery fees and service fees. What many do not realize is that the exact same item may already be priced higher on the delivery platform before those fees are added.

This means consumers can end up paying:

A higher item price.
A service fee.
A delivery fee.
Additional taxes and charges.
When purchasing groceries online, consumers deserve to know exactly what they are paying for.

If a product costs more on a delivery platform than it does in-store, that difference should be clearly disclosed. Consumers should not have to compare receipts, visit stores, or conduct their own investigations to determine whether a markup has been applied.

This petition does not seek to prevent businesses from making a profit. It seeks transparency, fairness, and informed consumer choice.

We call on governments and consumer protection agencies to require grocery delivery platforms to:

Clearly display when an item is priced higher than its in-store price.
Show the dollar amount and percentage of any markup.
Display all service, delivery, and additional fees in a simple and easy-to-understand format before checkout.
Prohibit misleading or unclear pricing practices that prevent consumers from understanding the true cost of their purchase.
Consumers deserve honest pricing, transparent fees, and the ability to make informed decisions about where and how they spend their money.

Sign this petition if you believe consumers have the right to know the true cost of their groceries before they buy.
