Protect Coffs Harbour's Koala Habitat from 0656/24DA Road Construction

The issue

We all need to do our part to look after the environment on behalf of our native wildlife. They are unable to voice objections themselves, we need your help to do it for them.

Proposed Development Application 0656/24DA (details freely accessible at the Coffs Harbour City Council website: https://www.coffsharbour.nsw.gov.au/Building-and-planning/DA-tracker threatens a critical piece of land that serves as a protected Koala Habitat and Biodiversity area for many Australian native species.

The DA claims that building a road through the habitat is the best option, but completely ignores other options such as doing a boundary adjustment that would allow a road to be built around the habitat using an existing clearing.

Koalas are already facing significant threats from habitat loss, disease, and climate change. According to the Australian Koala Foundation, there are fewer than 80,000 koalas left in the wild (source: Australian Koala Foundation). Preserving their habitats is crucial for their survival.

Instead of building a road through this precious protected habitat, we urge the development application to construct the road around it using existing clearings and allocate development funds towards proactively reinvigorating the protected areas instead of bulldozing through them.

By signing this petition, you can voice your support to build a road around and not through the protected habitat and help ensure that Coffs Harbour remains a safe haven for its unique wildlife, lives up to its claim of being an ECO Destination, while still accommodating necessary infrastructure developments.

We have started a web page with further details here: https://protectboambeekoalas.info/
