Protect children by restricting parental access after conviction for child assault

Protect children by restricting parental access after conviction for child assault
The Issue
Child safety is paramount in any society, and we must take every possible step to protect the most vulnerable members of our communities our children. Unfortunately, there are cases where individuals convicted of child assault still retain some form of parental access, putting innocent children in harm's way. This petition calls for immediate legislative action to prioritize child safety by enforcing strict restrictions on parental access for those convicted of child assault.
There is overwhelming evidence indicating that children who have experienced abuse or assault are at a higher risk of long-term psychological damage, including Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), anxiety, depression, and an increased likelihood of encountering abusive relationships in the future. By allowing perpetrators to maintain access to their victims, we are not only be harmful to the child's emotional and physical well-being but also diminish their chance for recovery .
Although some areas have taken steps to address parental access in cases of abuse, inconsistencies in the enforcement and lack of uniform guidelines leave many children unprotected. Therefore, we must advocate for nationwide legislation that uniformly restricts parental access rights in cases where a parent is convicted of child assault.
Concrete measures should include barring any form of visitation rights, supervised or unsupervised, and closely monitoring any essential communication that might still occur. Additionally, support systems such as counseling services should be provided to the affected children and their guardians to ensure a supportive environment for healing and development.
Every child has the fundamental right to grow up safe from harm.
Together, we can foster a safer environment for all children. By signing this petition, you are standing up for children's rights and safety, and urging lawmakers to take decisive action. Join us in making a difference.
I’ve contemplated multiple times on doing this and sharing this but I have made the decision to try get things changed in relation to laws involving access to children when there has been convictions of child assault.
In my eyes if you can be violent/ abusive to a child you should never be able to regain any form of contact. No child should ever be put at risk of any harm . Recently there has been so many disgusting incidents against innocent children and something has to change to protect these children.
After doing research and reviewing if it’s even possible I’m now looking for signatures so I can take this further. I want to Strengthen UK Law to Prevent Child Abusers from Regaining Access to Children, this matter is very personal to myself and from my own experience we have been let down on a numerous occasions by justice system. EVERY single protective measure I have been given I’ve had to fight for when why should we… Why should any victim have to continue to fight for conditions when they should be given as a standard.
Why does it always seem that the system protect the perpetrator? Why is it ok for the victim to feel judged and treated like they are the criminal?
Under current UK law, the welfare of the child is the court’s paramount concern, as set out in the Children Act 1989. However, in practice, individuals convicted of serious offences against children may still, in some cases, apply for contact or parental responsibility through the family courts. This can place children and non-abusive parents at continued risk. Again how is this fair?
That’s why I’ve started a petition on Change.org calling for stronger UK laws to prevent individuals convicted of abusing a child from regaining access to children.
This isn’t just about my family. It’s about closing gaps in the system and protecting others from going through the same thing.
The unbearable heartache, the constant trauma or re living or re starting a court process is enough to knock your recovery back massively so why is this aloud?
Clare’s law was introduced because a family believed laws needed to be changed… and they fought and fought until the law got changed for the better may I add…
For people who are unaware of what clares law is,
Following the murder of Clare Wood in 2009 by George Appleton, who had a violent history unknown to her, her family and campaigners pushed for a mechanism to protect potential victims. The "Right to Ask": Individuals can ask police to check if a partner has a record of abusive behaviour.
The "Right to Know":
Police can proactively disclose information if they believe someone is at risk…
The law was designed to overcome data protection limitations that previously hindered police from sharing a perpetrator's past.
The scheme aims to enable people to make informed decisions about their safety within a relationship.
We need to stop and prevent any further person and children from being subjected to any form of abuse.
Because any form of abuse is NOT OK
