Protect Canada's gender equality programs

The Issue

For years, I've watched the trans and gender-diverse communities in Ontario face increasing hostility, diminished support, and political erasure. I've dedicated my life to building inclusive spaces, amplifying marginalized voices, and preserving our stories through digital art and advocacy. Cuts to gender equality programs aren't just numbers on a page; they're a direct threat to our safety, dignity, and the future of our communities. I refuse to stand by while our rights are stripped away.

Canada has long been a beacon of hope for gender equality, firmly rooted in principles of equality, acceptance, and diversity. Our country's commitment to advancing gender equality has been evident through the establishment and funding of vital programs. However, the looming austerity measures threaten to undermine the progress we've made, putting at risk the very fabric of our inclusive society.

The gender equality programs directly benefit trans and gender-diverse people by providing necessary services such as mental health support, legal aid, educational opportunities, and community initiatives. These programs not only empower individuals but also foster a more inclusive and supportive environment for all Canadians.

According to a study by Egale, 74% of transgender youth in Canada experience verbal harassment due to their gender identity. Programs aimed at gender equality provide crucial resources that help prevent such discrimination and support those who are affected. Cutting the funding to these programs would exacerbate these issues, leaving many without a lifeline.

It is imperative that the Canadian government hears our voices loud and clear. We must unite to safeguard these programs from austerity cuts. By defending gender equality programs, we are defending our rights, our identities, and our futures.

I urge you to join me in this crucial fight. Stand with us in calling on the Canadian government to protect the funding for gender equality programs. Let's ensure that future generations can live authentically and safely, free from the threat of cuts that undermine their very existence. Please sign this petition and make your voice heard.
