To ask questions, share concern, or demand they stop the proposed certificate VROT.
Children and adults with blindness or low vision (brain-based or ocular) have the right to services provided by highly specialized professionals. There are long standing threats to the integrity and quality of these services. Among those, a lack of awareness of these professions has resulted in low enrollment in personnel preparation programs and subsequent service shortages.
More recently, decisions have been taken by the Academy for Certification of Vision Rehabilitation and Education Professionals (ACVREP) that have alienated professionals in this field from decision-making and threatened the future of highly specialized professionals and services in blindness and low vision.
We can work together to make sure that the field of blindness and low vision thrives and that everyone has access to highly specialized professionals with the necessary skills to support their lifelong goals.
Your voice matters! Sign this petition to demand the following:
- ACVREP should immediately stop the development of its proposed CVROT certification, created for Occupational Therapists to specialize in blindness/low vision,” with significantly less training compared to existing Visual Impairment Specialist Certifications.
- ACVREP should engage in a transparent and collaborative effort with all stakeholders to address the current and long standing threats.
Working together with transparency and agency, we can unite to protect the integrity of specialized services for children and adults with blindness and low vision. Likewise, together, we can redirect these efforts to recruiting others to the field.
