The Issue

My family, including my beloved mum, dad, and brother, rest at Hebburn Cemetery. As many of us are getting older, maintaining the graves of our loved ones has become an increasingly difficult task. Fortunately, Ben McReggor, a kind-hearted member of our community, has been a blessing for families like ours. Every week, he spends his time cleaning and tidying up graves, ensuring that they remain dignified places of remembrance.

Ben's compassionate deeds have touched the lives of many in Hebburn. Without asking for anything in return, he has made it his mission to honour those who have passed, by tending to their resting places when we are no longer able to do so ourselves. Ben’s contributions bring comfort to many families, providing solace in knowing that their loved ones are being cared for and respected.

However, astonishingly, some individuals are trying to get Ben banned from the cemetery. This is not only unjust but unfathomable. Ben is doing nothing but helping families, serving the community, and ensuring that Hebburn Cemetery remains a place of peace and respect. His efforts should be celebrated—not condemned.

We urgently need your support to protect Ben McReggor and his selfless work. Banning him would not only be a loss for our community but a disservice to the dignity and care that our ancestors deserve. We believe the authorities should formally recognize his efforts, perhaps even granting him a voluntary permit to continue his work without fear of retribution.

Please sign this petition to show your support for Ben. Let’s ensure he can continue his noble work without facing unnecessary obstacles. By doing so, we can demonstrate that Hebburn values community spirit and appreciates those who contribute positively to it. Your signature can make a difference—let’s protect those who protect our loved ones.

Take action now, and help us keep our cemetery a place of cherished memories and cared-for spaces. Sign this petition to support Ben McReggor’s invaluable contributions today.
