Protect authors from lawsuits by authorities when telling the truth

The Issue
During the period from 1971 to 1987, my family and I suffered unimaginable abuse under the care of social services. We were subjected to cruel treatment, including being battered, burnt, and starved, forced into vulnerable and degrading situations. These are not just allegations—they are supported by evidence that I am ready to share. Sadly, cases like ours are not isolated. Many individuals who have suffered at the hands of authorities are left voiceless, silenced by the looming threat of legal repercussions if they decide to share their truthful stories publicly.
Writing about personal experiences with abuse should be an act of healing and awareness, not one punished by lawsuits. Authors who bravely recount their painful past with the hopes of raising awareness and preventing future abuses often face the risk of being sued by the very authorities who failed them in the first place. This legal intimidation not only violates their right to free expression but also contributes to a culture of silence, allowing systemic abuse to fester unchallenged.
We must advocate for legislative reforms that protect authors who write truthfully about abuses they've suffered at the hands of authorities. Such laws should explicitly shield authors from defamation or similar lawsuits, provided they can substantiate their claims with credible evidence. This change will empower survivors to tell their stories honestly without fear, fostering an environment where abuse is challenged and rectified.
Join me in urging our lawmakers to create a safe legal environment for authors who speak out against abuses by authorities. It is time to protect free speech and hold those in power accountable. Please sign this petition to support our cause and drive this much-needed change.
