We, the fans and supporters of the global girl group KATSEYE (also known as the EYEKONS), are issuing this plea for their protection and security. It is deeply personal to us as we have seen our idols struggle and fight their way to the top, only then to be met with derogatory and damaging comments. The unceasing slander against KATSEYE has not only disheartened us as fans but is affecting the mental well-being of the artists involved. Specifically the racial and defamatory marks made against members Lara and Manon.

According to Cambridge University studies, defamation and online harassment can have deep psychological impacts and may lead to depression and anxiety among victims (Cambridge, 2019). That’s why we are petitioning for the strict enforcement of protective measures for KATSEYE under their managing company Hybe and Geffen(HxG), and legal procedures against those involved in the slander. 

Artists should feel secure and encouraged to express their creativity and be able to have moments of weakness without fear of any form of retaliatory hostility. We firmly believe that Hybe and Geffen, as reputable entertainment companies, should uphold their responsibility in ensuring the safety and well-being of their artists.
