Protect Arizona Voters’ Privacy and Stop Wasting Federal Resources on 2020 Election

Protect Arizona Voters’ Privacy and Stop Wasting Federal Resources on 2020 Election
The Issue
Arizona’s 2020 election has already been audited, litigated, reviewed, and certified. Multiple examinations — including the Arizona Senate’s own review — found no evidence of widespread fraud that would have changed the outcome. Even the partisan audit ultimately reported no substantial difference from the official count.
Yet now, years later, federal investigators have subpoenaed records tied to that same election.
This renewed probe raises serious concerns about voter privacy. Election records can include sensitive personal information such as names, addresses, birth dates, and other identifying data. Our voter information should not be caught up in fishing expeditions based on claims that have already been examined and rejected. Protecting the integrity of elections also means protecting the personal data of the citizens who participate in them.
At the same time, federal law enforcement resources are not unlimited. Taxpayer dollars — including those paid by hardworking Arizonans — should be used to address current public safety needs, not to reopen investigations into an election that has already been confirmed multiple times. Continuing to revisit 2020 diverts attention and resources from the real challenges facing our state and nation today.
When an election has been certified, audited, and upheld, the responsible path forward is to focus on strengthening future elections — not relitigating the past.
We call on Arizona Senate President Warren Petersen, Attorney General Kris Mayes, Secretary of State Adrian Fontes, and members of the Arizona Legislature to safeguard voter data, ensure transparency about what information has been shared, and defend Arizona taxpayers from further waste tied to redundant investigations.
