I am Kurdish, and like many others, my life was shaped by war before I ever chose it. When ISIS threatened our land, Kurdish men and women stood up to defend not only our homes but the world. We lost friends, family members, and our sense of safety. Yet, we did not run. We fought so that terror would not spread further.

The Kurdish people have been at the forefront of the fight against ISIS, defending their homeland and protecting countless lives. Rojava, in the north of Syria, transformed into a symbol of resistance, coexistence, and women's freedom in a region often marked by strife and discrimination. It became a beacon of hope where diverse communities lived side by side in peace and where women played a central role in leadership and governance, challenging societal norms and expectations.

Despite these significant contributions and sacrifices, the Kurdish people, particularly those in Rojava, remain vulnerable. They face constant threats from various forces, and their efforts and sacrifices are, more often than not, met with silence on the international stage. This disregard not only undermines the security and stability of Rojava but also jeopardizes the values of democracy and equality they strive to uphold.

We cannot stand idly by while this symbol of freedom and resistance is under threat. The international community must recognize the courageous efforts of the Kurdish people and take immediate action to provide them with the protection and support they deserve.

We urge governments and international organizations to:

1. Establish and enforce a no-fly zone over Rojava to protect civilians from aerial attacks.
2. Provide humanitarian aid and support to rebuild communities affected by conflict.
3. Recognize and support the autonomous administration of Rojava and its achievements in promoting peace and equality.
4. Engage in diplomatic efforts to secure a peaceful resolution that respects the rights and aspirations of the Kurdish people.
