Prosecute Surrey Police Officers for Cruelty in Violation of Animal Welfare Act 2006

The Issue

I believe deeply in the principle that if Britain is to be a civilised country, we need to respect all creatures and not endorse torture. These values were starkly betrayed on 14.06.24 in Staines-On-Thames, when police officers flagrantly abandoned their legal duty to behave humanely, and instead chose to deploy acts tantamount to extreme cruelty against a helpless calf. This callous action is a brazen offence against the Animal Welfare Act 2006, which enshrines the 'Promotion of Welfare' and the 'Prevention of Harm'.

Aggravating the matter, those involved were not just civilians. They were police officers entrusted with maintaining law, order and decorum. There was nothing justified or proportionate in the behaviour of Surrey officers that evening.  Their decision not only to refrain from aiding the helpless creature, but also to inflict unnecessary injury is profoundly disturbing. We believe this violent assault, which clearly intended to cause permanent injury or worse, needs to be addressed in a court of law.

Nationally, we proudly uphold high animal welfare standards, yet instances like these shatter our faith and trust in such institutions. The fact we are discussing this case today, ignited by the very people who should uphold and enforce welfare law, the guardians of society, indicates a severe deviation from our British values.

We implore the justice system to hold these officers accountable for their actions, dismiss them from their duties, and charge them under the Animal Welfare Act 2006. This petition does not merely seek justice for this one poor calf but for all animals who might find themselves in similar situations in the hands of those who choose brutality over kindness. Please help us take a stand against such gross misconduct and reaffirm our country's commitment to animal welfare. Sign this petition to make a difference.
