Dear Petitioners, Apologies for the long period without an update. You may remember that I wrote to PM May to ask for her support with our petition. Although we did not get a reply from the PM, the letter was passed on to the Home Office. The Home Office did respond although their letter begins: "The police are operationally independent of Government and neither Ministers nor officials are able to comment on or intervene in individual cases and police investigations." Interestingly it then states: "I would like to assure you that the appalling attacks we have seen recently have no place in our society, which is built on values of respect and understanding. Across Government we are committed to tackling all forms of hate crime and we will continue to condemn those who seek to divide our communities in the strongest terms on any grounds, including those who have sought to use the result of the EU referendum to legitimise such behaviour. Karen Bradley, formerly Minister for Preventing Abuse, Exploitation and Crime, made a statement to the House of Commons on 29 June 2016 regarding hate crime in the UK following the EU referendum result. During her statement the Minister was clear: hate crime of any kind, directed against any community, race or religion, has absolutely no place in our society. Should you wish to see the Minister’s full statement it is available online: https://hansard.parliament.uk/commons/2016-06-29/debates/16062966000002/HateCrime." You may also remember that the MET police, whilst insisting no wrongdoing had occurred, agreed to pass our complaint to the CPS. Subsequently the CPS have referred the complaint back to the MET police. The MET police are still insisting that nothing illegal has taken place but now they have referred the complaint to their legal team. I will update further when I know more. To finish up I have added a recent video where Nigel Farage states: "I can say this to you hand on heart. When we debated Brexit, we didn't even talk about Islam, we didn't even talk about some of those cultural differences....I would reject utterly and totally any allegations of deliberately pandering to extremism." Which is strange because during the campaign Nigel Farage said: “When Isil say they will use the migrant tide to flood Europe with 500,000 of their own jihadists, I think we better listen.” (https://goo.gl/VtqU08) Many thanks, Zack
