The Issue

Our family's move from Washington State to Chicago, Illinois in 2022 was supposed to be a fresh start, especially since my husband retired from the US Army after 20 years of dedicated service. Unfortunately, it turned into a nightmare thanks to a fraudulent moving company. We found ourselves victims of a scam that cost us not just money, but our irreplaceable family treasures and peace of mind. It's time to hold these fraudulent companies accountable for their actions.

When we needed to move, we trusted a company that appeared legitimate, only to discover they were fraudsters. They not only took thousands in down payments but also held all our possessions ransom. Everything was taken—our clothes, keepsakes, even our baby's toys. They demanded over $32,000, far exceeding the $9,000 we initially agreed upon. When we sought help, law enforcement and the FBI agreed it was theft and wire fraud across state lines, yet federal prosecutors out of New Jersey have declined to pursue the case.

This isn't just about our family. We've learned that countless others have fallen victim to these scams, with fraudulent moving companies continually preying on unsuspecting consumers. The current lack of prosecution allows these criminals to operate unchecked, destroying lives in their wake. By refusing to prosecute, a dangerous precedent is set, leaving vulnerable families without recourse or justice.

Our insurance company and the US Army, instead of assisting us, are adding to our burden. The Army now takes from my husband's retirement pay to reclaim the moving cost, because they claim there was no completed move. Meanwhile, we have been left without our belongings or support, despite promptly reporting our ordeal to all relevant authorities.

We must urge federal prosecutors to take these crimes seriously and prosecute moving company fraud across state lines. This will protect consumers nationwide and restore faith in the justice system. Our veterans and families deserve better, and we need your help to demand justice.

Please sign this petition to call upon authorities to take action against fraudulent moving companies. Together, we can push for accountability and change.
