Provincial Bill M216, which passed its Second Reading in the Legislature yesterday will next go to Committee of the Whole before the Third Reading.
The vote was very close: 47–44, with full support from NDP MLAs, both Green MLAs opposing, and nearly all Conservative MLAs voting against.
Why This Matters to Cordova Bay:
As stated in our last update, this bill is designed to streamline development approvals by relying more on provincial certifications rather than local council review.
For our community, this means that developments like the Aragon project on the former Trio Lands will move forward with EVEN LESS opportunity for local input or oversight!
Our voices, concerns, and questions about traffic, environmental impact, and community character WILL carry less weight under this new framework.
In short, the unfortunate passage of Bill M216 makes it EVEN MORE URGENT for Cordova Bay residents to stay informed, engaged, and vocal about how this development could affect our neighbourhood.
Continue sending emails or letters and please keep calling our provincial and municipal leaders and tell them what you think! ALL of our voices matter.
Thank you, Cordova Bay!
