Come to conclusion that I think we need to assume that this Aragon development will go through. It may, or it may not in the present form, but I think we need to err on the side of caution in order for us to put are absolute BEST foot forward.
My wife told me not to say this, but I’m not smart enough to listen. It is this. Let’s help Saanich do the right thing, by providing so many signatures they simply cannot ignore. Yes, a bit cheesy, and she is probably right, but there you go 😊. This is really the ONLY power we have. I know this is what we are doing, but we still have time to collect many more signatures. We don’t know what is going on behind closed doors and the other pressures that Saanich is facing. I also am not completely convinced that Saanich has complete autonomy from other political demands.
So, WE need to control the conversation here, not the developers.
The Aragon development, with the proposed 1165 units, is just sheer uninhibited greed in the purest form. We pointed that out in the February 25 update. They bought that land for 6.1 million dollars. Sorry to repeat myself here, but a SINGLE, EMPTY lot on Del Monte Avenue, right now, is selling for $1,199,000.00!!
Let’s divide this Del Monte Ave. lot which is 13,347 sq. ft. into an acre, which is 43,560 sq. ft. We get 3.26.
Then let’s take the Aragon property ( 26 acres) and multiple that by the 3.26. So, 26 X 3.26 = 84.76
Then let’s multiply 84.76 by the current price of the Del Monte parcel ($1,199,000.00) and we get $101,627,240.00!!
This is JUST playing with the numbers, there will be many other forces at play, BUT just wanted to give a general idea of the value potential that is locked in to this property. But they still want more units!
So, the “word on the street” that the developer can’t make any money unless he gets the 1165 units, is a complete and utter crock. Aragon must think we are all complete idiots! Pretty darn insulting.
Again, ALL we are asking is for is thoughtful, area appropriate, reasonable and common-sense development, that helps with the housing needs but doesn’t destroy the beauty of our area, and ruin it for the next generation. That is it. Super simple. I don’t think that is too much to ask at all.
My son is in Australia right now, and their population has to, by law, vote. Brilliant really, as EVERYONE gets counted. We need to look at the petition as such. All it takes is a few clicks and it is done. They can’t ignore everyone!
I will be out in community this weekend along with a few others to hit as many houses with our flyers as we can in the area.
We do have a list of what houses have been done and what houses has not been done, as well as someone keeping track. I will try to find a better way in the next week or so to get more folks involved and who want to help, because we will need it if we really want to stop the OVER development of the Trio site by Aragon, as well as other areas currently being affected in Saanich and within Cordova Bay.
Best Regards,
Dan Horth
