The Issue

My name is Cody, and I am a disabled veteran and skater. At the age of eight, I discovered skateboarding—a passion that quickly became my first love. It's more than just a sport for me; it's an essential outlet that allows me to express myself creatively in both stylish and artistic ways. Skating has always been a sanctuary, providing me with mental solace when life becomes challenging and chaotic. It stimulates the mind, building new neural pathways as one learns new tricks or styles, offering a way to quiet the mind during difficult times.

Sadly, Iron County, with a population of over 68,723 people—an even greater number when Southern Utah University is in session—only has one small skatepark located in Cedar City. This existing park wasn't designed to accommodate the flow of traffic effectively and becomes overcrowded quickly, limiting our ability to fully enjoy and grow in this sport. It's disappointing to see that much smaller counties and towns across Utah are equipped with more adequate skatepark facilities than what we have here in Iron County.

Just imagine the positive impact a new, well-designed skatepark could have on our community. It can provide a safe space for skaters of all ages to gather, practice, learn, and grow together. It can serve as a hub for creativity, exercise, and community engagement, promoting an active lifestyle and fostering friendships. With proper planning, we can create a space that considers both beginners and seasoned skaters, offering obstacles and flows that challenge and exhilarate.

We are calling on the local government, community leaders, and residents of Iron County to consider this proposal seriously. Let's collaborate, plan, and build a skatepark that meets the needs of our growing community and offers an inclusive space for everyone who shares this passion.

Help us transform this vision into a reality by supporting our campaign for a new skatepark. Please sign this petition to show your support for a facility that is much needed in Iron County. Thank you for considering this opportunity to improve our community for skaters and future generations. Signature by signature, we can make this dream come true.
