Proposal to Name a Roundabout "Charlie's Roundabout"
The Issue
Thank you for taking the time to read this.
With the upcoming project to build roundabouts on Poupart Road, I would like to propose naming one of them "Charlie's Roundabout." This name holds deep significance to both the location and families in the community.
Charlie, (pictured) was an extraordinary family dog—full of energy, well-behaved, and always at the center of every activity. His favorite spot was right in the middle of pathways at home, ensuring he never missed a chance for attention.
But what does this roundabout have to do with Charlie?
Charlie was born on the Poupart farm. His mother, Pepper, was owned and loved by Jerry and Donna Poupart, the original owners of the surrounding farmland. Charlie was taken in by their nephew, Matt Lamarre and his wife Heather. Charlie quickly became a beloved companion to his family.
One of Charlie’s greatest joys was exploring the vast acres of the Poupart property with the Lamarre children, Emily, Megan, Ben and Amy Lamarre. Many of the kids fondest childhood memories were made hiking through the woods, fields, and hills alongside him.
In 2019, the family had to say goodbye to their cherished friend. It was only fitting that Charlie be laid to rest in his favorite place on earth—Poupart farm. Today, his resting place is just a few feet from the curve on Poupart Road (heading north-south toward Walmart), making it a meaningful location to honor his memory.
I have reached out to the city regarding this matter, and the Urban Planning Department has stated that none of the roundabouts will be named. While I understand this policy, I kindly ask for this one exception to be considered.
For these reasons, we respectfully request that this roundabout be named "Charlie's Roundabout."
