The Issue

The progress and development of the world make it disheartening that people still practice gender inequality and discrimination against women. I realized this fact when I saw first-hand how women encounter deep-rooted biases which they face each day.

Women worldwide face multiple forms of discrimination which include unequal pay and decision-making and protection from harassment and violence because these rights should belong to all people. The statistics show an alarming trend because UN Women reports that as of October 2021 only 25 percent of national parliamentarians served as women which reflected a slight increase from the 11 percent level in 1995. The global gender pay gap now stands at 20 percent which means that women still make less money than their male counterparts.

The human rights abuse of violence against women has reached epidemic proportions because research shows that 1 in 3 women will experience physical or violence from their partner during their lifetime. The data about these disparities shows how discrimination affects actual individuals who experience restricted access to opportunities.

A woman faces an unjust battle for equality because long-standing societal norms determine her worth which dictates her position in society. The world experiences development setbacks because this inequality affects half of its population who work toward peace and security. The systematic marginalization of women who face denied opportunities requires our immediate attention.

The time has arrived for us to execute concrete measures which will advance women's rights throughout the world. The government needs to implement three actions which include enforcing equal pay laws and encouraging women's political involvement and developing programs that eliminate gender-based educational and employment disparities. Public awareness campaigns need implementation to achieve the required social transformation which will lead to social equity.
