Promote Men's Emotional Health Through Theatre Awareness Ads

Promote Men's Emotional Health Through Theatre Awareness Ads
The Issue
Crying doesnt make you less of a man ❤️
From a young age, it's painful to see and hear people perpetuate the stereotype that "real men" must be impervious to feelings, especially in moments of vulnerability or despair. I've been surrounded by the belief that men should always appear strong, stoical, and unaffected by emotions. Personally, it saddens me deeply every time I witness a boy or a man being discouraged from showing their true emotions because it's deemed "unmanly." I believe this societal notion is harmful, leading to unnecessary shame and burden for countless individuals.
"Don't cry like girl." These words stay. They teach generations of men to suppress pain, hide emotions, and silently struggle with stress, grief, or heartbreak. But emotions don't make anyone weak. Crying is human, not gendered. Mental health doesn't depend on toughness - it depends on honesty, empathy, and connection.
In India, and indeed globally, the prevailing perception is that boys must uphold a facade of unwavering strength. Yet, just like everyone else, boys have a spectrum of emotions that they should be free to express without judgment or ridicule. Crying doesn’t diminish one’s masculinity—it merely shows their humanity.
Therefore, I am calling for an impactful advertising campaign across all theatres in India with the message: "Boys can cry too, they can be emotional and vulnerable, and being emotional doesn’t make you less of a man." By showcasing this message in such a popular and influential medium, we can start to challenge and change these outdated perceptions, encouraging a healthier expression of emotions among boys and men.
Such an initiative would not only support those who are afraid to express their emotions due to societal pressure, but it would also educate the audience at large, fostering an environment where empathy and understanding can thrive.
This campaign could become a pivotal movement in advocating for mental health awareness and emotional authenticity. We urge production houses, and specifically theatre owners across India, to take action by running this advertisement before every film.
Let's make our voices heard and demand that every theatre takes a stand for this cause. Please sign this petition and help us bring about this much-needed change. Together, we can redefine what it truly means to be a man.
Let's break the stigma. Let's raise boys who know it's okay to cry.
❤️ What we ask:
We urge:
👉 The Ministry of Information & Broadcasting and Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to approve and promote such emotional-awareness ads.
👉 Theatre chains (PVR, INOX, Cinepolis, etc.) to volunteer screening time for this important social message.
👉 Production houses and ad agencies to collaborate in creating it.
