Promote Body Positivity and Address Dysmorphia: Aawaz 10.0

The Issue

Have you ever looked in the mirror and felt like you weren’t good enough?
If yes, then you are not alone.

As someone who once considered myself just an “average” guy, I am no stranger to the shame, discomfort, and insecurities that society imposes upon us. It’s an unfortunate reality for millions—one that has been shaped by impossible beauty standards, social media filters, and a culture that tells us we need to “fix” ourselves to be accepted. But who defines beauty, and why should it come at the cost of self-love?

At the Rotaract Club of Ramnarain Ruia College (RCRuia), we recognize how deeply these issues affect our generation. That’s why we launched "Aawaz 10.0"—a movement to challenge the stigma, redefine beauty, and amplify voices that have been silenced by self-doubt. Through reels, anonymous safe spaces, flash mobs, skits, street plays, panel discussions, and mural painting across Mumbai, we are taking this conversation from the shadows to the streets.

The Urgency of the Issue:

In today's digital age, the pressure to meet unrealistic beauty standards has become relentless. Social media platforms are flooded with airbrushed perfection, altering our perception of reality. This isn't just an assumption—according to a 2017 study in the International Journal of Eating Disorders, 85% of women and 79% of men reported dissatisfaction with their bodies. Despite these alarming numbers, the issue of body dysmorphia remains widely ignored.

We refuse to let this continue.

We believe that self-love is a right, not a privilege—and that nobody should feel less than enough because they don’t fit into a societal mold. This is where you come in.

What We’re Demanding:
📢 Incorporation of Body Positivity Awareness in Educational Institutions
We call for structured conversations in schools and colleges about body image, self-acceptance, and the negative impact of unrealistic beauty standards. Workshops and discussions can help young minds break free from toxic narratives before they take root.

📢 Stronger Ethical Guidelines for Media Representation
We demand responsible content creation by brands and influencers, ensuring that advertisements, films, and social media campaigns do not promote unattainable body ideals. Media plays a key role in shaping perceptions, and it’s time it does so responsibly.

📢 A More Inclusive Definition of Beauty in Public Spaces
Billboards, magazines, and brand campaigns often showcase only a narrow, conventional idea of beauty. We urge companies to feature diverse body types, skin tones, and disabilities, so everyone can see themselves represented.

📢 Safe Spaces for Body Positivity Conversations
Mental health is often overlooked in body image discussions. We call for more anonymous forums, open discussions, and support groups where people can freely express their struggles without judgment.

📢 Encouragement of Artistic Expression for Social Awareness
Art is a powerful tool for change. Our movement, through wall paintings, street performances, and public installations, highlights the importance of community-driven change. We urge more institutions to support and allow social awareness through creative expression.
