Promote Acceptance for Furries and Therians Society-Wide

Promote Acceptance for Furries and Therians Society-Wide
The Issue
Furries and therians represent a niche societal group which often faces societal stigma and misunderstanding from their fellow citizens. Furries engage with anthropomorphic animal characters with human personalities and characteristics, while therians deeply identify as non-human animals on a spiritual level. These communities are rich in creativity, kindness, and inclusivity and deserve respect and understanding.
However, when individuals in these communities publicly embrace their identities they are often met with judgment or ridicule. This reaction is born out of misunderstanding and arguably a lack of education about what these terms and lifestyles mean. They deserve the right to express themselves without fear of judgment or harassment, just like any other group defined by specific hobbies or spiritual beliefs.
The Pew Research Centre reports that 3 out of every 4 people have admitted to facing intolerance due to their hobbies or beliefs, which demonstrates the scale of this issue (Pew Research Centre, 2020). We have a responsibility as a society to strive for acceptance and understanding.
Therefore, we call on educational institutions, media outlets, and policymakers to take active steps towards promoting understanding and acceptance of furries and therians. This could be done through educational curriculums, balanced media coverage and the implementation of stricter anti-discrimination policies.
We must open up the conversation and strive for a society where everyone is free to be themselves, without fear or judgment. Let us create an environment that champions diversity, equality, and acceptance. Please sign this petition to take a stand for furries and therians today.
