Promote a united and respectful Indian-American community
The Issue
We call on Indian-American community organizations and families to build a more united, respectful, responsible, and inclusive community-one that preserves our heritage while fully respecting the laws, values, and neighborhoods we share in the United States.
We request community to:
Celebrate responsibly: Hold festivals and cultural events such as Diwali, Ganesh Chaturthi, and Bathukamma - in appropriate venues such as temples (about 200 temples in TX) and community centers whenever possible. Respect neighbors' privacy, peace, HOA rules, noise limits, parking requirements, and public-space regulations. Obtain required permits and appropriate liability insurance.
Keep cultural spaces nonpartisan: We request that U.S. Indian community organizations avoid hosting or promoting politicians, particularly frequent political events involving politicians from Telugu states, and keep cultural spaces free from partisan politics. Many Indians who built their lives abroad came seeking better opportunities and alternatives to the systems they left behind. Community spaces should not become platforms for political promotion, most of these organizers are trying to gain the attention of politicians, manage their money, and eventually contest elections. We also urge transparency regarding who funds community halls, dinners, and other hospitality for political events. By attending and supporting such events, we may unintentionally encourage this practice. Let’s keep our community spaces inclusive, nonpartisan, and focused on culture, service, and genuine community engagement.
Put the next generation first: Teach our children to take pride in Indian heritage while embracing American civic values - including respect for law, diversity, individual responsibility, humility, integrity, and service to the broader community.
Build unity beyond divisions: Encourage cooperation among Indian-American organizations rather than fragmentation based on language, state, caste, or other regional identities. Work together during emergencies and for causes that benefit the entire community.
Lead by example: Avoid excessive spending, unnecessary extravagance, and practices that may create concerns about political influence or community resources. Support transparency and responsible stewardship of funds.
A pledge for our community
Our traditions do not need excess or political influence to survive. We can celebrate meaningfully, support our temples and families, respect our neighbors, and contribute positively to American society. Let us choose unity over division, service over status, integrity over influence, and responsible celebration over disruption. Our children will inherit the community we build today. Let us leave them a legacy of culture, character, civic responsibility, and respect. Please don't contribute any money for this petion.
Please sign this petition and commit to being part of a respectful, united, and responsible Indian-American community.
