Promoting Life over Degradation of the Humber River

Thank you to everyone who signed the petition to eliminate powerful high-speed watercraft from the environmentally sensitive Humber River. We are asking for one small corridor of water, which is just 1.25 nautical miles or 2.3 km to the mouth of Lake Ontario, to be free of noise, fumes, induced shoreline degradation, and rogue behaviour.

Due to the petition from the community asking that the THYC (The Humber Yacht Club) not have their lease renewed this year (for the next 20 years), many Sea Doo and Jet Ski operators have been adhering to speed limitations when witnesses are present. (When other river users are not present, the noise from them tearing it up on the river is heard in our home.) This is a welcome improvement in the operators behaviour. However, as the slow-moving high-speed vehicles pass anyone else using the river, these visitors are forced to choke on the fumes left in their wake.

Please, if you live in Ontario or are a visitor, help us preserve our river by sending this petition to one more person AND signing the petition to not allow the renewal of the lease for the THYC, an organization which ignores environmental stewardship and has recruited and promoted the use of high powered personal watercraft on the river over the past five years.

There are many other positive uses for this city-owned land (which is under the jurisdiction of the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority) that can benefit both people and nature.

Thank you for sharing!
