I nearly choked on PLASTIC which had grown INTO my veggies!

The experience of developing a lovingly cared-for veggie garden, only to discover it's riddled with plastic netting was surprising and disheartening. 

Many of us gardeners, landscapers, and eco-conscious people have experienced similar disappointments. The widespread practice of using plastic meshing in turf by growers — a tool used to save time and money — has far-reaching consequences not only for us as individual gardening enthusiasts but also for our environment.

Plastic netting in turf degrades into microplastics, which end up contaminating soil and waters, leading to devastating impacts on ecosystems and contributing to the already severe pollution problem we face (Source: National Geographic). Besides, it also complicates lawn maintenance and disposal as the plastic threads intertwined with plant roots make it nearly impossible to disentangle.

Garden lovers buy turf with dreams and aspirations of a lush lawn, not foreseeing the shocking find of plastic embedded within. We believe it's time to BAN the plastic netting. Full transparency is needed regarding the materials used in our bought turfs, as well as acknowledgment of the harm they mirror on our environment. We urge growers to invest in sustainable practices, such as seeding lawns, instead of relying on harmful quick fixes like plastic meshing.
