Hello, all!

Today I’d like to share a a two important developments and an opportunity to get involved and show your support for Eagle Creek!

1. Indy City-Council President proposes data center moratorium.  - We are thrilled to learn that the Indianapolis City-Council President, Maggie Lewis, is calling for a moratorium on new data center development in Indianapolis!

Thank you, councilor president Maggie! And thank you to all of the other councilors and elected officials who have been attending meetings, rallies, and speaking out about protecting Eagle Creek and Indy’s drinking water for the last 7 months!

On July 1st we attended the Citizens Action Coalition rally outside the city-county building calling for a data center moratorium in Indianapolis. Immediately after the rally the Metropolitan Economic Development Committee met about data center zoning and regulations. They voted to weaken the ordinance and allow data centers to have increase noise pollution despite public opposition.

This ordinance will be heard by the Indianapolis City-Council at the Metropolitan and Economic Development committee meeting TODAY, Monday, 7/13 at 5:30 pm at the City-County building. This is when City-Council President, Maggie Lewis, will propose the data center moratorium. You can rally with Protect Pike Township and Citizens Action Coalition at 4:45 pm prior to the meeting in front of the City-County Building. Wear red to show your support of a data center moratorium in Indy!

2. Researchers are raising concerns about run off from data centers - One week ago news broke from a researcher sounding the alarm about a META data center contaminating a public water system in Utah. An unusual bacterium was found and is associated with industrial waste water runoff. 

“That means this could be a problem anywhere there is a data center that discharges into municipal wastewater systems. It should be noted that many proposed data centers are aware of these potential risks and therefore have said that they will not release waste into municipal systems. However, if there are heavy metals in the wastewater, they can cause problems for the environment wherever it is discharged. It’s a new wastewater because these data centers are going up faster than anybody can catch a breath, and I’m not sure that all of the data– we understand everything that’s really associated with the impact of that data center because we’re in such a rapid building pace.”

This situation in Utah is EXACTLY what we are trying to prevent from happening with Eagle Creek!  The research is proving that data center discharge water is not safe for consumption or use and cannot discharged anywhere near our communities or into our drinking water or park!

3.  Share comments and show your love for Eagle Creek park and reservoir! - We want to highlight your wonderful comments on this change.org petition and share them in a meaningful way!  We are looking for 20-30 people to record a 20-30 second video of themselves reading the comment they shared on this petition to Save Eagle Creek. Or you can record a video of yourself telling us why you love the park and reservoir and why it’s important to protect it and Indy’s drinking water. Bonus points if you can record the video of yourself at Eagle Creek park or on the reservoir :)

I will create a longer video with the recorded comments I receive and share it on this petition, our social media platforms, and hopefully to local news media outlets!
