Prohibit Stock Trading by Congress and Senate During Term and Campaigning

Prohibit Stock Trading by Congress and Senate During Term and Campaigning
The Issue
As a concerned citizen, I see a disturbing pattern where our government, the one we trust with the welfare of the nation, places its own financial gains above the public interest. A recent instance that left me appalled was the purchase of millions of dollars in Meta stocks by our senators, just prior to the TikTok ban. This kind of behavior is an egregious betrayal of the public trust and exemplifies how our leaders are serving themselves rather than us, the people who elected them.
We believe that our elected officials should be held to the highest moral standards. That's why we are calling for a comprehensive ban on stock trading by members of Congress and the Senate, both during their term in office and while campaigning.
According to a 2020 report by Business Insider, at least 51 members of Congress or their spouses own between $2.8 million to $5.3 million worth of stocks in companies with significant lobbying efforts in Washington, D.C. This clear and alarming conflict of interest morphs the landscape of politics into a sightseeing tour of self-interest and corruption.
This issue isn't about party or politics. It's about maintaining the integrity of our democratic system and holding our public servants accountable. I urge you to support this initiative for a change, so we can restore faith in our governmental institutions. Sign this petition today to demand a full ban on stock trading by our elected officials. Together, we can ensure a government by the people, for the people.
H.R.3003 - Bipartisan Restoring Faith in Government Act has been proposed, but not yet passed. We have to get companies out of politics.
