Prohibit Persons on Felony Bond for Child or Domestic Abuse from School Campuses

Prohibit Persons on Felony Bond for Child or Domestic Abuse from School Campuses
The Issue
I am a mother of three beautiful children, aged 7, 8 and 9. My ex-husband is currently out on felony bond for abusing our children, causing our eldest to suffer a concussion which required five months of physical therapy and ongoing trauma counseling for all the kids. Despite his inappropriate behavior during court-approved supervised visitations – actions that led to his suspension from the visitation center – he is still allowed to attend school functions due to current bond conditions.
These precious kids are afraid to go to school. Ashamed because they have to testify against their own father and afraid because they’ve experienced his violence and rage and now he can intimidate them in their own elementary school.
This situation is not unique to us. There are countless families across the country who are forced into similar circumstances where an abusive individual can freely access school campuses while out on felony bond against children. This loophole in our legal system puts at risk those most vulnerable - our children.
According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADV), one in fifteen children are exposed to intimate partner violence each year, and 90% of these children witness this violence firsthand. These statistics highlight the urgent need for change.
We urge lawmakers and educational institutions alike to implement stricter regulations prohibiting individuals out on felony bonds related specifically child abuse or domestic violence from being permitted access onto school campuses. This would provide an additional layer of protection for victims who should feel safe in their learning environments.
Please sign this petition if you believe that no child should be exposed to their abuser at school - a place where they should feel secure and protected. Together we can make schools safer places for all students by keeping abusers off campus grounds.
