As a long-time resident of Kansas and an Army Veteran, I have always believed that American lands should stay in American hands. Our beautiful state is rich in agricultural resources, and it's alarming to see the increasing trend of foreign entities buying up our land. According to the USDA Economic Research Service, as of 2019, foreign investors owned about 35.2 million acres of U.S farmland which is approximately 2.7% of all agricultural land in the United States (USDA ERS). This may seem like a small percentage but it's a growing concern for us Kansans who value our sovereignty and local control over our resources.

Foreign ownership not only threatens our national security but also has implications for rural communities whose livelihoods depend on these lands. It can lead to displacement, loss of local jobs and increased competition for farmers who are already struggling.

It's time we take action to protect our land from being sold off piece by piece to foreign interests. We urge the Kansas state legislature to enact legislation prohibiting the purchase of Kansas land by foreign citizens and corporations.
