Prohibit Fireworks on Beaches to Protect Environment and Wildlife
The Issue
I am a resident of Ocean Shores, a small and beautiful beach town in WA, USA. One of the most heartbreaking annual events that strikes this peaceful community, particularly the wildlife, is the 4th of July celebration. On this day, hordes of people from outside the town descend upon us for a day of enjoyment, with little thought to the consequences of their actions.
Canisters, shell casings, and other debris from fireworks can remain in the environment for years, causing harm to wildlife and polluting our beloved shores. According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, fireworks can cause a substantial increase in air pollution, specifically particulate matter, leading to harmful air quality levels that can impact both humans and wildlife.
The loud noises produced by the fireworks can be extremely distressing to numerous local wildlife species. According to the Humane Society, sudden and loud noises can cause stress and fear in many animals, leading to changes in their natural behavior that can even result in death.
Environmental preservation and wildlife safety are not only a community responsibility but a global one. It's high time we put an end to this damage and start respecting the fragility of our ecosystems. I urge you to support this call for a ban on fireworks on our beaches, for the benefit of our environment, wildlife, and future generations. Please sign this petition today.
