Miami Beach, a beloved destination for both residents and tourists, is renowned for its pristine beaches. However, the tranquility of our public beaches is being disrupted by boat-borne billboards. These floating advertisements not only mar the natural beauty of our coastline but also pose potential distractions to swimmers and boaters alike. According to a survey conducted by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), 85% of beach-goers visit primarily for the natural beauty and tranquility (NOAA, 2019). The presence of these intrusive billboards undermines this purpose.

Moreover, light pollution from these billboards can negatively impact local wildlife such as sea turtles that rely on natural light cues for nesting (Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission). We believe in preserving the serenity of our public spaces and protecting local wildlife from unnecessary disturbances.

We urge local authorities in Miami Beach, FL to enact legislation banning boat-borne billboards visible from public beaches.
