We need to contact the governor now! Please take a moment this weekend to follow the below instructions while you are on your phone anyway 😀 The top few email addresses are for staffers in the governor’s office, which is important because the emails will go directly to someone who has the governor’s ear … not into a general mailbox to be lost forever 🤣 —— The bills to change General Municipal Law 207-c have passed the Senate and Assembly! This is a major step, but our work is not done! Now our work focuses on asking the governor to finally sign this into law! So, we have more homework 🙂 As soon as possible, we ask you to send the below email to the below email addresses.
The email addresses: legislative.secretary@exec.ny.gov, cherell.beddard@exec.ny.gov, Denise.Gagnon@exec.ny.gov, Rosalind.Yezzi@exec.ny.gov, Rachael.Quimby@exec.ny.gov, Elizabeth.Reisinger@exec.ny.gov, Shea.Necheles@exec.ny.gov, Scott.Ritter@exec.ny.gov, Kara.Cumoletti@exec.ny.gov, Jessica.DAmelia@exec.ny.gov, Jerrel.Harvey@exec.ny.gov, Anthony.Hogrebe@exec.ny.gov, Patrick.Kwan@exec.ny.gov, Mackenzie.Wasilick@exec.ny.gov, Halie.Meyers@exec.ny.gov, Nichols.Silbersack@exec.ny.gov, Megan.Meyers@exec.ny.gov, Maya.Noonan@exec.ny.gov, Emma.Vadehra@exec.ny.gov, Sasha.Ginzberg@exec.ny.gov, Sabrina.Bierer@exec.ny.gov, carrie-lynn.vanapeldoorn@exec.ny.gov, cohend1@nyassembly.gov, stuhlmillerp@nyassembly.gov, msogut@nysenate.gov, sterlingm@nyassembly.gov, bouachri@nysenate.gov, smulliga@nysenate.gov, SD4Scheduling@nysenate.gov, kasmore@nysenate.gov, wilsonm@nyassembly.gov, sala@nysenate.gov, ahunt@nysenate.gov, lhill@nysenate.gov, adalton@nysenate.gov, ranney@nysenate.gov, walkerjm@nyassembly.gov, baronj@nyassembly.gov, campbellw@nyassembly.gov, rislerj@nyassembly.gov, korn@nysenate.gov, gerould@nysenate.gov, mmosher@nysenate.gov, MajorityLeaderCommunications@nysenate.gov, crossan@nysenate.gov, rali@nysenate.gov, gonzalezpress@nysenate.gov, zbocka@nyassembly.gov, Enesr@nyassembly.gov, Sperryd@nyassembly.gov, Sherrettsj@nyassembly.gov, mustop@nyassembly.gov, Brooksj@nyassembly.gov, SMorello@nysenate.gov, RRodgers@nysenate.gov, DDavis@nysenate.gov, Adey@nysenate.gov, lupi@nysenate.gov, Reyes@nysenate.gov
The email: SUBJECT: Please sign probation disability benefits into law!
TEXT: Now that A2535 and S8837 have been passed by the Assembly and Senate, we implore Gov. Kathy Hochul to sign these bills into law once they reach her desk so that all NYS probation officers may approach their county lawmakers to request full disability benefits when hurt in the line of duty. We thank lawmakers who helped to move this legislation forward, and we would appreciate lawmakers' continued support in encouraging final passage. Probation officers deserve the same types of benefits already granted to other peace officers. Our position on this may be viewed at Change.org/207c_probation. Since December 2024, we have pointed out so many factors that make passing changes to General Municipal Law 207-c the only fair way to fully protect probation officers. To recap, probation officers: - perform similar duties as police officers and very similar duties as parole officers (parole has 207-c-like benefits in its contract with NYS) - work with increasingly violent offenders, including those arrested for/convicted of sex offenses, violent assaults, weapon possession, drug possession, domestic violence, etc. - work with those who are gang-affiliated - encounter anti-police sentiment within the community - have experienced incidents in which they are injured by a probationer - perform home visits during which officers do not know what they will encounter - face exposure to the risks of fentanyl and other dangerous narcotics in our communities - supervise many arrestees who are Released Under Supervision in accordance with bail reform laws
Thank you,
