EVERY City in India has broken Urban Infrastructure. Broken roads, unpainted speed bumps, dividers without reflectors, dysfunctional street lighting, non-existent road markers, parking nuisance, open sewer lines, encroached pedestrian ways or no pedestrian ways, garbage along the city roads - makes not only for an ugly spectacle but also a grave risk to life and comfort of tax paying citizens. There is NO dignity of existence for an average urban resident in India.

The root cause of this mismanagement is Municipal Corporations that are entirely state run. Often headed by an IAS civil servant, there is ZERO accountability for the mess these guys created. They are not only incapable but are thoroughly incompetent for the jobs. They thrive on kickbacks from contractors and concessionaires.

It is time we demand that Municipal corporations are fully privatized and Incorporated as Section 8 Not for Profit Companies or even as public limited companies in Stock Exchanges. Let us kick out civil servants, sarkaari babus, local feudal lords and lout politicians from the Municipal corporations. Our cities deserve better. We deserve better. Let the cities be managed by competent professionals.
