PETITION TO PRIORITIZE WESTON STUDENTS AT  ALL WESTON SCHOOLS - ESPECIALLY CYPRESS BAY HIGH SCHOOL

To: State Representative Robin Bartleman 

Protecting Educational Opportunities and Addressing Overcrowding at Cypress Bay High School and all schools in Weston! 

We, the undersigned residents of the City of Weston, respectfully request that Broward County Public Schools prioritize students who reside in Weston for enrollment at Cypress Bay High School and all schools in the city, subject to applicable school assignment policies and capacity requirements.

All schools, especially Cypress Bay High School - being the only HS in the City of Weston, are an important part of the Weston community. Continued overcrowding can place additional demands on classrooms, teachers, school facilities, and educational resources, potentially affecting students’ learning experiences and the quality of education they receive.

We ask Broward County Public Schools to:

1. Prioritize Weston residents: Review school assignment and enrollment policies to give appropriate priority to eligible students residing in Weston.
2.  Address overcrowding: Evaluate enrollment capacity and take meaningful steps to prevent further overcrowding at all Weston schools, especially Cypress Bay High School.
   
   
3. Review out-of-area enrollment: Assess policies governing students who reside outside the school's designated attendance area and limit new out-of-area enrollments where legally and administratively permissible and where capacity constraints warrant.
   
   
4.  Protect educational quality: Ensure students have reasonable access to classroom space, instructional resources, teachers, and the educational opportunities they need to succeed.
   
   
5.  Promote transparency and accountability: Provide Weston families with clear information about enrollment numbers, school capacity, attendance boundaries, and the measures being considered to address overcrowding.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        We believe Weston families deserve a thoughtful, fair, and transparent approach to school enrollment that protects educational quality and recognizes the needs of the community.

I believe that the legislature removed the all state financial penalties and fines for school districts that fail to meet the class size maximums. If that is the case we must also contact our State Legislators to reverse this decision and make school districts accountable. 

By signing this petition, we ask Broward County Public Schools to take action to address overcrowding at all Weston Schools especially  Cypress Bay High School and ensure that school assignment decisions appropriately consider the needs of Weston students.
