Debra Hixon is an elected official serving as a Countywide School Board Member for Broward County Public Schools, first elected in November 2020. With over 35 years of experience in education, she began her career as a science teacher and swim coach at Blanche Ely High School before transferring to South Broward High School. Debra has held various leadership roles, including Maritime/Marine Science & Technology Magnet Coordinator and chair of the BCPS Wellness Committee. She is passionate about educational excellence and community engagement, advocating for resources to support students and teachers. A graduate of Broward County schools herself, Debra is also involved in several community organizations, including the Chris Hixon Athletic Scholarship, honoring her late husband, Chris Hixon, who was an athletic director at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School
