The Issue

As locals of Keremeos, BC, we share a deep-seated passion for Cathedral Provincial Park and the Ashnola corridor. These natural marvels are not just recreational spots- they are integral to our life and way of life. This park serves as a primary reason behind our attachment and dedication to our Keremeos community as a place to live.

The catastrophic Crater Creek fire, which occurred 11 months ago, heavily damaged our beloved park. The fire destroyed the basecamp bridge and buildings and burnt trees on the road to the core area. The road is passable, but its security remains an unanswered question because there has been no Geotech assessment done to date.  The campground at Quiniscoe lake is intact, the Rim trail via Glacier lake is intact, and the Cathedral Lodge is intact.  This part of the park could open for the public.

The Cathedral Provincial Park stands as an invaluable recreational asset for our community, plus numerous other communities in the region and indeed throughout BC. The lack of action in restoring and securing the park is disappointing and alarming.

Thus, we request immediate and prompt attention towards conducting danger tree and Geotech assessments, initiating remediation work on the affected infrastructure, and creating a comprehensive strategy to revitalize our beloved park. Acting now will allow the Cathedral Lodge to resume operations, injecting much-needed economic activity into the surrounding areas, and, of course, restoring our recreational paradise.

Raise your voice with us to hasten the restoration of the Cathedral Provincial Park. Your signature can help us reclaim the beauty and functionality of our treasured park. Please sign this petition.
