The Issue

As residents of Downtown Minneapolis, we are deeply concerned about our safety and quality of life. We urgently ask: Why is the city spending nearly $1 million annually on the Warehouse District Live event when our community is in need of greater safety measures?

Why is this event running until 3:30am after bar close? Why can the karaoke contests be heard loudly through closed windows/doors over 6 blocks away? This event is not accomplishing anything for the residents of the downtown area, and it is disturbing our peace.

Key Concerns

Financial Priorities:
Investing substantial funds in events that compromise our safety raises serious questions. Our community needs resources allocated to enhancing security and ensuring a safer environment for everyone.

Rising Gun Violence:
Recent incidents of gun violence, including two deadly shootings just one block away between 3 and 4 AM, highlight the urgent need for increased safety measures. These events leave residents feeling vulnerable and anxious in their own homes.

Impact of Noise Levels:
The excessive noise from late-night activities disrupts our peace and can be heard from several blocks away. This creates an environment that is not only uncomfortable but also contributes to a sense of unrest among residents.

Access to Our Neighborhood:
Street closures throughout the weekend make it difficult for residents to access their own community. We deserve to navigate our neighborhood freely and without barriers that compromise our safety.

Call to Action

We urge city officials and community leaders to take the following actions:

Reevaluate Financial Priorities:
Shift funding from events toward measures that enhance safety and security in our area.

Implement Greater Safety Measures:
Increase patrols and support initiatives that address safety concerns effectively, helping to restore peace of mind for residents.

Improve Communication with Residents:
Establish clear communication channels to keep residents informed about safety measures and ensure our concerns are heard in planning discussions.

Conclusion

As Downtown residents, we deserve a safe and supportive environment. The emotional impact of living with fear and disturbance cannot be overstated. Let’s prioritize the safety and well-being of our community over funding events that do not serve our best interests.

Please sign this petition to advocate for a Downtown that values safety, peace, and the quality of life for all its residents.
