Prioritize Existing Schools, Invest in Our Community

The Issue

As a lifelong resident of Jersey City, I have witnessed the struggles and challenges faced by our local public schools. It deeply concerns me that instead of investing in the improvement and maintenance of these schools, there are plans to build a new high school called Liberty Science Center High School. This petition aims to urge For them to rather prioritize our existing educational institutions.

This issue is personal to me because I have attended public schools throughout my life, just like my friends and family. We have seen firsthand the issues that exist within our current educational system. From outdated facilities to limited resources, these problems stunt students' ability to learn and become successful.

While it is important for us as a community to support initiatives that promote education, we believe it is essential to address the needs within our already existing schools first. By prioritizing repairing and improving these institutions, we can create an environment where all students have equal opportunities for success.

Here are some relevant facts about the state of education in Jersey City:

1. According to data from GreatSchools.org, several public schools in Jersey City receive below-average ratings for academic performance.
2. The New Jersey Department of Education has identified numerous structural issues within various local schools that require immediate attention.
3. Many teachers struggle with overcrowded classrooms due to lack of space, inadequate facilities and most recently lack of staff.
4. Limited extracurricular activities and sports programs negatively impact students' overall development.

Instead of investing resources into building a new high school from scratch, let us focus on addressing these urgent needs within our existing buildings:

1. Renovating outdated classrooms.
2. Expanding extracurricular programs including arts, music, sports teams, and extra credited classes after school which contribute significantly towards students' personal growth.
3. Hiring and keeping qualified teachers by offering competitive salaries and professional development opportunities.
4. Ensuring that all schools have good resources to support students with extra help.

By signing this petition, we call upon For Them to reconsider their investment plans for Liberty Science Center High School and redirect or provide funds towards the improvement of our existing schools. Let us prioritize the education of our children, ensuring they have access to quality facilities, resources, and opportunities for a brighter future.

Together, let's invest in our community's educational foundation and provide every student in Jersey City with an equal chance to thrive. Please Sign This Petition.
