The Issue

Every day, as a customer, I witness the dwindling quality of customer service in various establishments. I work hard to be able to purchase products and services. However, when problems arise, I find myself constantly ignored, hung up on, or left on hold for hours on end by the very businesses I support. The frustration of repeating my concerns to unresponsive customer service representatives is disheartening.

Businesses seem to be forgetting the quintessential element of their existence: the customers. The efficiency and quality of the customer service reflect how much businesses value their clients. However, when such services are outsourced, often the quality dramatically diminishes. Businesses should recognize the damage they inflict on their reputation and customer relationships when their service departments do not reflect their core values.

According to a study in the Harvard Business Review, 48% of customers who had negative experiences with a company told 10 or more people. On the flip side, businesses can increase customer spending by 140% by improving customer service (source: Harvard Business Review).

The purpose of this petition is to have companies realize the significance of their customer service departments, whether outsourced or not, and work towards improving their services to better cater to their clients. Let us remind them that without us, customers, their businesses would cease to exist. 

I feel defeated, but mostly I’m angry. I’m angry of the lack of appreciation these businesses have for their customers. I’m angry that businesses claim to have a customer service department. Because that is not what’s happening. These supposed customer service agents do not assist customers with anything. They offer us fake apologies for any inconveniences or stress whatever issue we are having has caused us. They also need to start taking ownership when the mistake was theirs and fix it so we the customers aren’t taking the punishment for it.
