Henderson is a city rich in culture and charm, but it is also facing economic challenges compared to neighboring towns. A significant part of our community's identity is the local family-owned businesses that not only serve our residents but also attract and rely on tourism for survival. These small businesses form the backbone of our community and are integral to maintaining the unique character of Henderson.

Currently, there's a proposal to introduce more big-box franchises into the area. While some might argue this brings development, the true cost could be detrimental. Big-box stores often overshadow our beloved local shops, drawing customers away and leading to economic hardship for businesses that have been a part of our community for generations. Instead of enhancing Henderson, this move risks turning our city into yet another indistinguishable spot on the map.

However, there is a viable and exciting alternative that could invigorate Henderson and propel it into a new era of prosperity—an aquarium. An aquarium would be more than just an attraction; it would be a beacon of growth and opportunity. By highlighting the unique ecology and biodiversity of our region, it would draw tourists from far and wide, eagerly contributing to our economy while fostering environmental education and awareness.

An aquarium could provide numerous benefits: driving increased foot traffic to local businesses, allowing them to thrive alongside this new attraction, creating jobs, and potentially sparking further investment in our city. following economic benefits a public aquarium can offer, adding an aquarium in Henderson would allow benefits for nature preservation and open up educational programs. 

I am  proposing a shift in priorities that favors sustainable and community-centered development. Let us focus together on building a future where Henderson stands out as a vibrant, thriving, destination that respects its roots and champions its community. We urge the Henderson City Commission to prioritize the construction of an aquarium over additional big-box franchises.
