Prioritise Children’s Mental Health in our Education System

The Issue

We have all witnessed children’s struggles within the school environment and I strongly believe that the large increase in children and adolescents who have crippling anxiety and deteriorating mental health is majorly due to the current conditions and expectations at school.

Our nation's education system, in its current form, places too much emphasis on traditional academic results, often leaving children's mental health by the wayside. This is a reality I live daily and it's a heartbreaking observation I desperately wish to change. I strongly believe education should promote not only knowledge, but also well-being.

According to a study by the Mental Health Foundation, around 10% of children and young people (aged 5-16 years) have a clinically diagnosable mental health condition, yet 70% of children and adolescents who experience mental health problems have not had appropriate intervention at a sufficiently early age. As a society, we cannot ignore this issue.

We are demanding a reform in our education system that prioritises our children’s mental health over every other aspect of school life. We are not asking for a reduction in academic quality, but a balanced approach where mental well-being is considered equally important. Mental health issues can shortcut a child’s potential to succeed later in life. By prioritising mental health now, we are safeguarding our children's futures for tomorrow. Please, stand with us, demand change. Sign this petition today.
