Nurses & carers in social care deserve the same pay & conditions as the NHS staff.
The Issue
Social care employees deserve the same pay and conditions as their counterparts in the NHS, as they do a sometime difficult, but very rewarding job under extreme conditions; many acting autonomously as there is very little medical support in nursing or social care environments.
The way to encourage experienced nurses and carers to work and remain in social care is to offer the same pay and conditions as their NHS staff counterparts . This would slow the flow of excellent carers and nurses from gaining experience in Social care and then leaving to go to the NHS. This pay would have to be taken into account in the fees that Providers are paid.
I believe this is an important factor in recruiting and sustaining staff in social care. I have experienced this myself that well trained and experienced staff leave social care to gain more money and enhanced sick pay in the NHS.
The only way to keep experienced staff in social care and keep up the skills within this sector is to reward the staff for the amazing work that they do. If we do not act now we will lose our Social care sector; we need to act now before its too late.
