In the attached article, Dr. Goldson minimizes the concerns of all parents of virtual learning students to be a matter of comfort and leisure. She is quoted in the attached WTOP article stating:
"While I fully understand parents feeling like their child’s in a routine and comfortable,” Goldson said the school system had been very clear that the return to in-person learning was a priority."
I am utterly disappointed and outright disgusted by this statement!
Virtual parents made the decision to alter our various schedules and lives to keep our children at home to learn; SAFE from Covid. We are in a pandemic; there is nothing comfortable or routine about that. For Monica Goldson to minimize our concerns to a matter of comfortability and convenience is a disappointment at best. Vaccinations are available for children, they are not REQUIRED to attend PGCPS. Vaccinations do not guaranteed non transmission. Again, this is not a matter of comfort or routine! It’s a matter of the health and safety of our children!
I encourage each and every one fo you to directly let Dr. Monica Goldson hear your individual/household concerns regarding safety and in-person learning here: ceo@pgcps.org/301-952-6008. Let her know just how impactful virtual learning was in your household. We know the decision to enroll our children in the virtual learning program did not come easy to everyone and we all had to made major adjustments to our work and home lives.
