TAKE ACTION WITH PGCPS PARENTS/GUARDIANS: PEACEFUL CARAVAN AGAINST MARYLAND STATE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION AND PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOL PLAN TO END K-6 VIRTUAL LEARNING PROGRAM FOR RESIDENTS AND NON-RESIDENTS OF PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY, MARYLAND
Upper Marlboro, MD – On Wednesday, January 26, 2022, organizers and supporters of the change.org petition titled “Keep PGCPS Virtual Learning Program In Place For Remainder of 2021/2022 School Year” will lead a public demonstration with a peaceful caravan in Prince George’s County, MD to call attention to the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE), Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS) and PGCPS School Board of Education ending safe virtual learning for students in grades K-6 on Friday, January 28, 2022. Organizers are asking Prince George’s County residents, non-residents, community organizers, policy makers, influencers, youth, activists, and leaders to join in solidarity at 3:00 p.m. at Bragg Motel (7001 Crain Highway, Upper Marlboro, MD). The caravan will depart promptly at 3:30 p.m. en route to the PGCPS SASSCER Bldg. (14201 School Lane, Upper Marlboro, MD) via 301 South & Old Crain Highway. Organizers are asking participants to come in peace; to wear protective masks and exercise distancing; and to use the hashtag #KeepVirtualLearningPGCPS and #KeepPGCPSStudentsSafe on protest signs. This is a non-violent event. Organizers stress the importance of a peaceful protest and will not encourage or condone violence, rioting, looting, or uprisings of any kind.
Organizers recognize the importance of following COVID-19 safety protocols. We will exercise all local social-distancing rules in place and strongly encourage participants to use facemasks and stand at a reasonable and safe distance if outside of vehicles. We also advise anyone who is experiencing any symptoms of COVID-19 or who have recently been exposed to someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 not to participate in this event. If you are unable to support this march in person, please use your strength and voice to encourage decision makers to never take the option away from Parents on how to protect children during a health crisis through spreading the word of our mission and petition, and calling or writing your county and state level decision makers, to demand they take all necessary steps and precautions to keep our children safe.
