Thank you to everyone who has signed this petition. It was tabled in Parliament on the 11th of February with all 18,000 signatures. This is a rare achievement for an internet petition. While it was addressed to the Prime Minister, Malcolm Turnbull, he referred it to Peter Dutton, Immigration Minister. Neither has responded to the petition, even though it is by all measures a large petition. Behnam is still on Manus Island and his heart condition has not been addressed. He also had the additional stress of one of the killers of Reza Berati being on the loose for two weeks before their conviction. There are some court cases which are ongoing, both on PNG and in Australia, and I have great hope that the courts will finally provide justice to Behnam and to all those imprisoned without trial on Manus Island. Right now, however, Behnam has developed a very serious infection in his hands. He has had a chronic fungal infection for many months which has not been treated effectively and this has led to a bacterial infection with a number of open wounds. He has been given cream and a bandage by the camp doctor, but he has lost movement in his fingers. The treatment is inadequate. He urgently needs to be medically evacuated to Australia. These open wounds can lead to blood infections. Hamid Khazaei died of similar infections. I have written to the Immigration Minister, Peter Dutton, today, and asked for this to be treated as a medical emergency. I ask all of you to also write to Peter Dutton and ask for the immediate medical evacuation of Behnam Satah to Australia for treatment of these infections. His email address is: minister@border.gov.au Australia is responsible for the lives and well being of these people it has placed in the offshore camps. The failure to bring Behnam to Australia for urgent medical treatment is intentionally causing serious injury. Many doctors and psychologists have recently spoken out about the horrific treatment of those interned on Manus and Nauru. It is an unconscionable situation. Dr Diana Cousens
