Dear friends, Thank you for signing the petition. Please tweet the link to your followers, paste the petition url on your Facebook pages, share this email with your friends and let people know that this is an urgent campaign. Behnam is not well. The sustained campaign of harassment and constant threats have taken a toll on his mental and physical health. The excruciating pain in his heart, the loss of use of his left leg and arm and various sleep disorders, have not been addressed. He has painkillers to manage these symptoms, but they do not solve his problems which become more acute each day. He now has a diagnosis from a psychiatrist and he has permitted me to share it with you. He has post-traumatic stress disorder. As long as he is on Manus this will continue to worsen. We have seen with Hamid Kehazaei, who died after a foot infection was left untreated, that those in charge of Manus are capable of letting someone die rather than admitting there is a problem and bringing them to the mainland. With the lack of interest and response so far from the Australian government this appears to be their strategy. The petition has been printed out and sent to the Prime Minister three times. First with 600 signatures on 6 January, then with 4,280 signatures on 11 January and last Monday, on 18 January with 16,408 signatures. We are waiting for a reply from Malcolm Turnbull. It is a bad sign for Australian democracy when Prime Ministers do not respond to petitions. We urgently need to increase the number of signatures on the petition. If you have already signed it and tweeted it, please tweet the petition link again. If you have already pasted it on Facebook, please paste it again. Share it in groups. I hope we can get 20,000, 50,000 or 100,000 signatures - but most of all I hope we can get Behnam off Manus urgently. Behnam's situation was recently described in the Guardian - see: http://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2016/jan/16/key-witness-in-reza-barati-trial-fears-he-will-be-killed-on-manus-island I have written an article for the Saturday Paper which I expect to be out on Saturday 23 January. Thank you for your help. Dr Diana Cousens
