BRING CANADIANS STUCK IN PUNJAB (INDIA) HOME

0 have signed. Let’s get to 25,000!

My name is Ri Sihota and I am starting this petition on the behalf of my father, 3 grandparents & thousands of Canadians stuck in Punjab, India.

My father & grandparents are currently in India and had flights booked to return for March 28th (for my grandparents) & March 29th (for my father). On March 19th, both their flights got cancelled as Narendra Modi has placed a travel ban starting March 22nd. I attempted to reschedule their flights to leave before the border closed but there were no flights available (all had been cancelled or were over booked). As you know, there is great uncertainty on whether or not India will reopen their borders. Just today, PM Modi extended his ban from March 31st to 21 days. The pandemic is escalating in India at an exponential rate. With a population of nearly 1.4 billion people, India does not have the testing or healthcare system to control the outbreak of this pandemic.

My father has heart disease & grandmothers have kidney disease & diabetes, respectively. They are among the vulnerable population for the Coronavirus like many of the thousands stranded. As of today, March 24th, my father has 9 days worth of medication left. This situation requires imminent action by our government. Every day the government waits, is a another day you the government is putting Canadian Citizens at risk.

I am not going to sit around to let those trapped in India be a second thought of this government. I’m going to take action. I’m going to fight for every single person that is stranded and not stop until every Canadian Citizen trapped in India is brought home safely.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

For those of you reading this that have family trapped in India, please do the following steps ASAP:

1. REGISTER at: https://travel.gc.ca/travelling/registration

2. EMAIL BOTH: sos@international.gc.ca & india.consular@international.gc.ca
with the stranded individuals NAME, DOB, PASSPORT#, FLIGHT DETAILS & LOCATION IN INDIA

STEPS THAT NEED TO BE TAKEN BY THE GOVERNMENT:

1. Issue repatriation flights to AMRITSAR or DELHI.
2. As there is a lockdown in effect in India for 21 days, the government MUST work with Indian officials to allow transportation (busses or any other means of travel) of these stranded Canadians to the Airport.
3. Provide Canadian Citizens with documentation that will allow them to pass police guarded checkpoints to safely arrive at the airport.

I am calling on Justin Trudeau to get these stranded Canadian back onto Canadian soil ASAP. Once again, time is of the essence. Everyday you wait is another day you have risked the lives of your citizens.

PLEASE SHARE THIS with everyone you know. We need to bring awareness to this cause ASAP.
