Endometriosis devastates the lives of women and their families. This condition affects girls from as young as 8 years of age, through to women in their 60's. One in ten girls and women suffer from Endometriosis that affects every aspect of their daily lives.
Endometriosis is a debilitating Gynaecological condition that has far reaching effects, not only for those who suffer from the condition, but also their families, friends and employers. Many women struggle to study, work and care for their families due to the chronic pain and other unrelenting symptoms they suffer from. For those who suffer from Endometriosis, their treatment can involve many surgeries, chemical hormone treatments and cocktails of drugs. It can be a long journey for sufferers that can last many years and severely disrupt their lives. Some women suffer from infertility which can be caused by Endometriosis and this means more challenges for women when they wish to start a family.
To date, there is no cure for Endometriosis and the cause still remains a mystery.
Endometriosis does not have much awareness in the Community and this needs to change.
Endo Angels was set up to offer a forum where women can find support and strength by sharing with others, and also to mobilise those who have Endometriosis so that we have a stronger voice together to advocate for recognition of our condition.
We would like the Government to recognise Endometriosis by -
* Reduced waiting times to see Specialists for early diagnosis
* Creating a faster GP referral pathway to Gynaecologists to reduce the time it takes to reach proper diagnosis
* Providing better education for GPs, nurses and other medical professionals
Our dream is to have a Specialist Multi-disciplinary Treatment Centre for Endometriosis in New Zealand, as they have in Australia, USA and the UK. This will lead to better diagnosis, treatment options, surgical expertise and follow up for all Endometriosis patients as well as ongoing specialised support.
We are seeing an increasing number of girls and women suffering from Endometriosis, who are struggling to get appropriate care in the health system in NZ. While waiting to be seen, they are left suffering in excruciating pain. If this condition is left undiagnosed and untreated for too long, it quickly worsens which can lead to complications and further damage to internal organs, which equates to more cost to the health system.
Please sign this petition and help our voices to be heard in unity, so that Endometriosis is taken more seriously by those in Parliament.
'Be strong, you never know who you are inspiring!'
